Babytalk: tackling childhood obesity

The World Health Organization is worried about what your toddler is eating and how much exercise they’re getting.

Childhood obesity is on the rise and if current trends continue young people in both the Western and developing world are facing up to a health crisis.

That’s not much consolation if you’re a parent with a cranky toddler that refuses to eat a vegetable.

So how do you tackle the issue in your family?

Should you be weighing your child?

How do you differentiate between good nutrition and diet fads for children?

The experts are well aware how difficult it can be for families. Deakin University School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences are where two passionate academics work in the field of children’s exercise and nutrition.

Professor Karen Campbell and Associate Professor Kylie Hesketh have contributed to research that is used by the World Health Organization. They’ve been working on the Infant Program, a children’s nutrition program delivered through the Maternal Child Health Nurses.

If you’re worried about your child’s health, you need to listen to this week’s Babytalk podcast as we find out more about tackling childhood obesity.
